The Wynstone Community

Wynstone began development in 1987, and has since become one of the most picturesque communities in Northwestern Illinois. Centered around a Jack Nicklaus Golf Course, Wynstone provides exceptional domestic architecture set upon a breathtaking landscape.

Located on 750 acres in the village of North Barrington, the community of Wynstone is served by both Barrington and Lake Zurich school districts, as well as the townships of Ela and Cuba. 240 of Wynstone’s acres are dedicated to the golf course and various lakes and ponds. There are 437 homesites within Wynstone consisting of 327 estate homes, 80 maintenance free homes, 8 Golf Villas, and 22 vacant lots of land.

Governed by set Covenants, Conditions, Restrictions, and Architectural Review Guidelines, the community of Wynstone is managed by the Wynstone Property Owner’s Association (WPOA). This Non-profit Corporation consists of a Board of Directors and Staff who are devoted to top-level community service. Wynstone’s Property Owners’ staff is responsible for public safety, common areas, private roadways, & the water and sewer treatment plant.

The Wynstone Public Safety Department supplies twenty four hour security to the community and is certified in first response procedures for the well-being and protection of its members. As a gated community, the Department also provides traffic control using the ABDi Gate Access System, offering residents the option to conduct guest entrances via a smart phone or electronic device.


The Club at Wynstone

The championship 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, par 72, was rated by Golf Digest as one of the top 100 courses in the United States. The course opened in July of 1989. The yardage from the championship tees is 7, 003 par 74.2, slope 139; men’s tees is 6,601 par 71.9, slope 135; women’s tees is 5,260 par is 70.8, slope 125. The course is routed through both rolling terrain and marshlands. Water comes into play on 14 of 18 golf holes and eleven greens are flanked either front side or back by water. There is a complete golf pro shop and the golf professional staff organizes active golfing programs and provides lessons for all ages. In addition to the championship golf course, The Club at Wynstone also has a practice range and two putting greens. In 2015, the golf course re-opened after extensive renovation and is in impeccable condition today. The greens and fairways are bentgrass, the fairway perimeters are Kentucky bluegrass, the bunker renovation included drainage and sand replacement, and all tee boxes have been re-graded to ensure firm/flat surfaces.

The Wynstone Clubhouse is a 36,000 square foot shingle style structure with accents of North Carolina stone that are evocative of late 19th century designs advanced by renowned architects such as Henry Hobson Richardson and Stanford White. The three level Clubhouse has many luxurious features. For your dining requirements, there is the Signature Room which is a private dining room that serves 16; the Barrington Room seats 50, the Mixed Grill is the main dining room used by the members and seats 150, and the Pine Room located next to the Mixed Grill that can accommodate a cozy 12 people. In addition, there is a small intimate Nicklaus Library, which has memorabilia from Jack Nicklaus’ earlier golf days. There is an impeccably appointed bar and cocktail lounge overlooking the golf course, which is located next to the Barrington Room. Enjoy summer dining on the varied patios which includes the recent addition of the spectacular fire pit and patio. The men’s locker facility occupies two levels. It is highlighted by custom-made wood lockers and includes such facilities as sauna and steam rooms. The spacious and richly appointed men’s grill has a vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace and a patio overlooking the 18th green. An outdoor fire pit, enjoyed by all, is just another example of meeting the desires of the members!

The women’s locker area, on the main level, features a selection of facilities similar to the men’s which includes an inviting lounge, custom lockers, card room, shoe service, showers and sauna.

The ground level pro shop, remodeled in 2013, carries a full line of golf clothing and equipment and is accessible from the main parlor. There is also an exercise center located on the ground floor of the clubhouse for use by the members.

The outdoor junior Olympic swimming pool and “kiddies pool” also boasting the Gazebo grill and bar, locker rooms and a very active Wynstone Sharks Swim Team that competes against other local swim teams. The Tennis Center has 4 fast dry lighted courts with 2 additional hard surface courts and a full tennis pro shop. Also included in the tennis services are racquet sales and repair, private lessons, clinics and a junior tennis program.
